Hannibal King #013b

I haven't posted in a while since summer came up, work got crazy but I'm hoping to get back at it. I had some time last week to work on this mod. I wanted to kit bash some heroclix together to custom out my Hannibal King prime. I'm a Ryan Reynolds fan so I thought I would make his Hannibal from the Blade movies. Here we go.

First up, the Ryan image I wanted to mimic.

So, for my mod
I went through my parts box and came up with this mod. Hannibal King! For the parts, I used Daimon Hellstorm from ASM, the shotgun from Johnny Blaze from ASM. I got the pistol from a shield agent from captain america, and just painted the rest of the model to look like Hannibal. I had a good time with this mod. Hopefully I can pick up another Prime so I can play at tournaments with the custom. Thanks all!

Aquaman #048

This Aquaman is the Flashpoint version from the Superman set. I love this Aquaman with a passion. His geyser ability is hella fun, as well as when he dies the whole map turns to water! The original painting actually wasn't too bad this time around. I still repainted him because I enjoy it >:D Here's the original!

I took the picture from HEROminis again. I like how they capture the original paint job. Now my repaint is just about the exact same, except I used a gold metalic instead of flat yellow. I also washed the model pretty heavily.

For some reason in this picture the glare covered an eye but other than that I really like the way he came out. I did some slight dry brushing of the white on the water. As well as turned the base clear. Thanks for viewing!

Scarlet Spider #018

I'm really enjoying Kaine's version of Scarlet Spider. I like Ben but I like the idea of villains trying to make a turn around and the struggles they have to face. He may be a little brutal at times. But I think he is an awesome character. I was stoked when I pulled SS out of my first ASM booster. Now that I have 6 i'm not quite as thrilled. I do have plans for them though. Those webbed bodies will come in handy.

Here is SS when he comes out of the booster. He actually had a decent paint job... except they missed his entire foot on the machine. Not sure how computers can paint so sloppy... but mission accomplished.

He's a pretty awesome character to play with. His ledge dangle ability makes me laugh meniacally when I get to use that ability. For painting I actually painted two. I like to play one, and with I couple him with kaine I needed a second one for Kaine to switch into. So, I made a Ben Reilly version of SS and repainted the Kaine version.

Franken-Castle #101

It's alive! I got Franken-Castle from a tourny at my local store. I was pretty stoked. I got around to painting him, and I think he turned out pretty good. The before.

So here's my custom. I really liked this model to paint. The sculpt was simple, yet Frank has a demanding presence. As well, he isn't overclogged with those clear plastic movement plastics they like to add on.

With this model, I wanted frank to have a more of "Dying" Flesh instead of the grey he normally does. Never made sense, so I used a mixture of greens and browns to give him a decaying look. For the metals a drybrushing technique. The challenging part that I failed miserably at, was his pouches for teeth. The plastic on my model wasn't enough to wash and dry brush to white so I just painted them solid white and hoped for the best.

I really enjoyed this model and am really glad to have him in my collection.

Black Adam #054

SHAZAM! It's Black Adam! Black Adam is pretty awesome, he's one of my favorite villains as of recently. When I pulled this fig out of the Superman set I wasn't overly excited but after doing my research on the Captain Marvel of things, he's pretty bamf.

The Original - I didn't take one myself so I pulled this one from Herominis.com

I did some research on this fig. the soldier BA is choking to death is the gentlemen who designed the sculpt. I looked up said gentlemen and pulled an image of him in uniform from Google search so I could replicate it on my soldier. It's basic camo so nothing to fancy. Here he is!

To begin, BA was removed from his rock base with a hobby knife, and the rock was drybrushed codex gray, to ceramite white, to pure white. The lightning bolts are that see-through plastic, that HeroClix sometimes come with to make them look in motion. I drybrushed the part of the rock the bolts were coming out of to attempt to give a glowing effect. Black Adam was painted Black and highlighted with a 75/25 abaddon black and codex grey. The yellow areas of BA were painted yriel yellow with heavy highlighting of sunny yellow then 50/50 sunny yellow / ceramite white. Adam's eyes we're painted sunny yellow with a light drybrushing to give a supercharged look. His skin tone was painted xv-88 with an elf flesh layer. I washed his skin in a heavy gryphonne sepia to give him a tan look. Adam is from Egypt so I wanted him to be slightly darker. His cheek bone down was washed Devlan Mud for a 5 o'clock.

The Soldier. He was painted with a military camo pattern xv-88 for the brown, rhinox hide, and caliban green. His skin tone was xv-88 layered with elf flesh, with a highlight of 75/25 elf flesh, ceramite white.

Hulk #027

HULK SMASH! I had some free time on Saturday so I started working on Hulk from the Guardians of the Galaxy booster. He's a pretty sweet fig, and was pretty fun to paint.

Before:

The original sculpt wasn't painted all that bad. There weren't too many mess ups, or spill over paint areas. I still wanted to repaint him however. WizKids models are very flat and bright. I like my figs to have much darker color. So must of my models are painted with a darker costume design. Bright red brought down to brick red sort of ideal. Same costume color coordination just a less cartoony approach.

The repaint!

Pretty quick to paint. Primed him Chaos Black, then gave him a basecoat of Loren Forest. Highlighted with 50/50 Loren and Warboss green. Then a raised highlight of 75 /25 of Warboss to Loren Forest. Washed the model with Biel-Tan, painted the Hair Abaddon Black. The eyes and teeth Cermite White. I painted his pants Perfect Purple, with a Drakenhof Nightshade wash. The base was made with Tyrant Skull dry base with a Codex Grey wash! There it is and he's finished and ready for the board.

Mistress Death #044

Alrighty! Another weekdown, only 2 to go until this semester is over! So it's taken me a little while to get into painting with the semester wrapping up, but I was able to pull a Mistress Death from a Double sealed tournament from the NML event. I didn't win the Killer Croc LE :( but there will be other chances! Mistress Death is awesome for a range support piece. She's not meant to move around at all and just blast people from down the field, so I was pretty stoked. Her and Madam Web are going to be awesome side by side on my "Chairs" Team.

Once again here's the Original picture of Mistress Death and then i'll post my remake with a little blurb about my painting process on this fig :)

I'm not quite sure why the HeroClix are so terribly painted. Maybe since the game has really taken off this last couple of years, they are required to crank out as many as they can at as cheap as they can.

So here's my finished mini, I wasn't too entertained with painting her since the entire fig is mostly bone. Still a cool piece to own.

So for this fig I stripped the paint off the mini with my acentone from Walmart. It took a little while, the paint was really caked on. After the model was dry, I sprayed the model with chaos black primer. When finished, I drybrushed xv88 onto all the bone surfaces. I wanted the bone to look rotten instead of bleached. After, I painted the stone her chair is on, abaddon black. Then drybrushed the entire model codex gray, and continued to lighten up the drybrushing with wicker white from folkart, ceramite white then finally white scar. When dry I washed all of the bone pieces with Gryphonne Sepia, then the recesses and inside the teath, skull eyes and various random spots with Devlan Mud. For Mistress Death, I painted her solid black and built up a light warlock purple highlight. Washed her with Badab Black and Walah! I'm stoked to play this piece in a tournament, need to play her with Terrax and really wreak havoc. I'm hoping I can get more painting done a little faster and post a little more often. Until next time!
